OSINT username search
An OSINT username search checks open sources for public profiles that use a handle. UsernameLookup runs that check on 300+ public sites, handles up to 100 usernames per batch, scores how the found profiles connect and records evidence snapshots for your case notes.
From a list of handles to a case file
Trust and safety teams, fraud analysts, brand protection staff and journalists often start an inquiry with a handful of usernames. Command line tools can check them, but they leave you with raw output, no record of when a page was public, and no easy way to share the result with a colleague or a lawyer.
UsernameLookup keeps the same open source approach and wraps it in a workflow. Each handle runs against the full catalog, the found profiles get a likely same person score with its reasons, and every result can be saved to a case with notes and evidence.
The output is something you can hand over: a CSV for analysis, or a PDF report with timestamps, status codes and page titles for each public profile.
-
01
Collect
Paste up to 100 handles from a report, a ticket export or a list of suspicious signups.
-
02
Check
Every handle runs against 300+ public sites. Found, free and unknown are kept apart.
-
03
Connect
Read the likely same person score for each handle, with the display name, picture and cross link reasons.
-
04
Record
Attach case notes and evidence snapshots, then export the CSV or the PDF report.
Evidence you can show later
Public profiles change. Accounts get renamed, emptied or deleted, sometimes within hours of a report. An evidence snapshot fixes what the public page returned at the moment of the check, so your notes do not rely on a page that may no longer exist.
Snapshots belong to the case and appear in the PDF report next to your notes. They describe the public response only, never anything behind a login.

Responsible use and legal limits
Open source does not mean anything goes. Data protection law still applies to public profile data, and an investigation needs a lawful reason and a proportionate scope. These are the rules the product is built around.
What the search does
- Requests public profile addresses that anyone can open without logging in
- Records the public response, its time, status code and page title
- Scores links between public profiles and shows every reason
- Keeps your notes and snapshots inside your team workspace
What it never does
- Signs in to platforms or reads private accounts and messages
- Claims to know the person who runs a profile
- Includes adult or explicit sites in the catalog
- Supports stalking, harassment or doxxing, which close the account
Keep the scope to what your case needs, store exports securely and delete them when the case closes. People can request that a public profile is excluded through the opt-out page, and the full rules are in the acceptable use policy.
For ongoing watch on a brand or an executive instead of a one-off inquiry, see brand impersonation monitoring. Teams that triage fake profiles every day can read about fake account detection, and single handle footprints with history are covered by the reverse username lookup.
Plug it into your own tools
Analysts who already work in notebooks or case systems can call the API with a bearer key. A lookup returns the status of each site, the profile links and the confidence score with reasons, and long runs give you a poll URL to fetch when ready. Read the username lookup API page for details.

Questions about OSINT username search
What is an OSINT username search?
It is a search of open, publicly available sources for profiles that use a given username. UsernameLookup checks 300+ public sites, scores how strongly the found profiles connect, and keeps evidence of each result for your case file.
How many usernames can I search at once?
The Investigator plan and above accept up to 100 usernames in one bulk run. Each name gets its own result with found, free and unknown sites, and the whole batch can be exported.
What is in an evidence snapshot?
For each found profile we record the public URL, the time of the check, the HTTP status code and the page title. Snapshots go into the PDF report and stay attached to the case, so you can show what was public and when.
Can I use the tool to identify a private person?
No. The search covers public profile pages only and does not identify who runs an account. Stalking, harassment, doxxing and any use against a private individual without a lawful reason break our acceptable use policy and end the account.
Can I automate searches from my own tools?
Yes. The API returns the same data as JSON, including the confidence score and its reasons. Investigator includes 10,000 API calls a month.
